I do feel bad for the girls who are stuck looking for places every shabbos. I think parents should pressure the seminaries to run shabbos programming. On the other hand, getting to meet families from all over the country is a great learning experience. |
Every seminary offers staying in for shabbos if they dont have a place to stay but its nerdy to stay and maybe 5-10 girls end up staying. During covid they'll have a program in place for everyone to stay in

This is cut and paste from an Israel based cover 19 update group I belong to, which is run by Dr. ELiana Aaron in Israel. It was just posted a few minutes ago.
Gap Year News:
The Ministry of Interior has officially opened foreign student entry into Israel. This is after 180+ school representing nearly 15,000 foreign gap year students united into an organization nicknames the “VAAD” to negotiate a deal. (University students from abroad have been allowed in throughout this ordeal). Under the deal, the Rosh Yeshiva or head of program will sign an agreement for health regulations on behalf of his/her school accepting the conditions. The conditions include submission of a pandemic plan, which requires approval (EMA Care plans are now considered the “Gold Standard” btw) including that the school can and will be able to keep the quarantine regulations, which will include up to 6 students per quarantine space with a private bathroom.
Once a school received authorization, the list of student will be processed by the Population and Immigration Department for pre-entry approval by Border Control. The students will then get authorization for flights to Israel through the school (entry permit). All gap year students will enter the country as B-2 tourist visa status. The Rosh Yeshiva or head of school will be responsible to submit student visa application on behalf of his/her students within 30 days of arrival.
Single students will be required to provide an original birth certificate before he/she enters the country; married students will have to attach birth certificates for themselves, their spouses and family members, and a marriage license.
Students who are minors must make the request through an Israeli Consular representative, and the student will need to provide (in addition to the birth certificate) 1) a letter of being accepted into the school with start date 2) a letter from the school guaranteeing that they will uphold he MOH standards and 3) the school authorization received from the MOH for the school to open (pandemic plan approved). The Entry permit will be valid for 30 days from before start of year at the yeshiva/ institution. The government will be monitoring throughout the quarantine period with surprise visits to the locations and to verify that the institution is upholding the standards required and the students are following the rules. The institutions are required to cooperate with the government inspectors/police and with the inspectors of the VAAD of the schools. Every school must appoint someone to be responsible for corona management and be the point of contact with the quarantined students.Other details:
1) A single driver must drive the students from the airport directly to the quarantine location (no public transportation)
2) The quarantine space must be hermetically sealed from residential areas of other non-quarantines students
3) 6 students may be quarantined together in a “capsule” with a private washroom designated for their space alone
4) The institution must provide food, trash, laundry services for the entire 14-day period
5) A point of contact from the institution must maintain contact with all of the quarantined students and to assure they do not exit their quarantine space
6) A student who falls ill or develops symptoms of COVID must be in contact with the school point of contact, and the school is responsible to seek appropriate medical care (within regulations)
7) If a student is diagnosed within the capsule, the institution must remove the other capsule students into individual quarantines
8) All students must sign consent detailing the risk of group quarantine (that if one person gets sick in the capsule, they may all be exposed)
9) If the institution is closed due to a general lock down or the institution does not open the school year, the institution is required to assure that all needs of the students are met to allow students to maintain regulations as stated (so staff can still get to the school if there is a shut down)
10) The institution will appoint someone to be responsible for implementing the pandemic plan/regulations regarding quarantine and rules
11) All of the responsibility for assuring the maintenance of quarantine is the institution’s and the students’.
