Which ophthalmologist did you use?

Different another. My son was recently diagnosed with "convergence insufficiency"...his eyes didnt work together fully (and some other related eye issues). His vision is 20/20. He said he never saw double, text didn't move, he didn't get headaches and read a ton. But there were kriya issues, and other academic and OT issues. You go to a pediatric optometrist (or a behavioral optometrist). He has now been prescribed prism lens glasses and is about to start vision therapy.

I have no clue that this is in any way what your DD has, but it's crazy that I spent years knowing there's are issues...visual processing, OT, coordination, a bunch of things...and meanwhile I (and specialists) missed something so basic! It took me spending time learning chumash with him during quarantine day in and out to finally start figuring things out.

Same.

My son was diagnosed many years ago by Dr. Borkowski, he seems to be good at figuring out if there's an issue or not. (At the time he told us about it we laughed because he didn't have any kriah issues, but it caught up with him later).

When did you do your research?

Oros now has at lest 40 girls in a class Bais Kaila's teachers would love to have only 25 girls in a class.

The schools are over packed most do not have $$$ to add more classes it is hard to start new schools so the girls just get packed in.

My daughter is in 9th grade so my information is brand new.
My daughter is not in BY or BS but one of the others.
Her friend is in BK with 27 in her class.
Another friend in Oros with 31 in her class.
The expectation is that each of the smaller schools (not BY and BS) will add another one student per class before Sukkos and another 2 per class each year.
So if my daughter has 29 now. She'll have 30 by Pesach. 32 for 10th grade, 34 for 11th grade and 36 for 12 the grade.

Actually my daughter was given the wrong prescription by dr borkowski when she was very little. Dr shanik picked up on that. Since then we only use an opthomologist in CHOP recommended by dr shanik.
I’ve also taken her to an eye doctor who specializes in vision therapy and prism glasses. I was really hoping she would be given prism glasses and it would solve things however that eye doctor said she’s not a candidate for prism glasses.
At this point I feel like we didn’t leave any stone unturned. It is what it is. She has diffulties academically but bH she’s up to par socially.
I’d love for her not to have to have the pressure of school work but unfortunately that’s what school is.

Look into chedvas.
Theyre nice to the girls if you can say that.

A lot of nice sweet and fun aidel girls;
warm and upbeat and uplifting atmosphere; very much into each girl growing and help them become healthy happy and confident young Jewish women, whatever they each will choose to do with their lives.

They have tracks.

Thank you for that recommendation. It looks good based on the review by KEYM and what you wrote. What type of girls go to bnos brocha?

Bais Kaila took less kids one year. This year they have 91 kids in three classes.

One of my DD's had 2 classes in her year, and I think 25 girls in each. But usually they have 3 classes. That was the only smaller year.

ETA: They started out with 25 girls in each class (50 total). They got transfers every year. I remember when she was going into 11th, 10 girls from other schools applied to transfer. IIRC they took 4 students, all of whom were daughters of alumnai. They didn't think it's fair to their students to take more than that at that stage (and I agree. It would change the dynamics too much at a point when girls need to feel settled.)

It's called sheer numbers. I'm sure they are being pressured to take even more students. As is every school in town.

BTW OP - my relative whose child is pre-dyslexic saw a Dr. Bernstein in Brooklyn for her vision issues. She has prism glasses but I don't think that solves everything.

Classic OOT BY- yeshivish.
Not the most yeshivish families in Lakewood, just regular.
I looked into the elementary school years ago and heard wonderful things about it.
The high school is still so new so I couldn't hear much about level of academics.

I would recommend Aderes. It might be an easier sell convincing your daughter because next year it will be a full school with a 12th grade. That's a big deal for girls.

Also you didn't mention how yeshivish you are. But your description of your daughter, she sounded like the Meon girls I know.
Nice, sweet, fine, fun girls.

BTW - on the topic of Maon, the principal is a niece of Mrs. Shechter, who is the principal of BY. Her mother is the principal of BY of Chicago. She knows high school girls. (I know her personally - relative of a relative, etc...she has chinuch in her blood.) I have several families of relatives in that school, and they all seem very happy there.

Do you have girls there now? Because I work there and there is always approx 30 kids per class. Last year they took fewer kids, so this years 10th grade is slightly smaller. They do generally keep it to 30 or 31 kids to a class though. Definitely doesn't compare to BY or BS class sizes.

Thank you for that info/

How does maon compare to chedvas?
We are considered a yeshivish family although my husband is a businessman. (He learns every day too.) I am originally from out of town but my husband is from an old time Lakewood family.

Maon is much more RW yeshivish than Chedvas.

Maon is quite yeshivish. 50% father's learning/rebbe. High majority learned the first 5-8 years. The girls and families have limited technology exposure.
It feeds from Bnos Melech. So 75% of the girls are from there.

I know very frum families that send to bnos bracha and Chemdas (early bnos bracha families) (oot type)
Bnos bracha has the reputation of not being very academic or pressured. If that carried over to the high school that may be a good fit for your dd.

Maon is Bnos Melech's high school, which is ultra-yeshivish. Think most father's still learning, very to the right.
Chedvas is Bnos Bracha's high school, which is more open-minded, balebatish.
Both have wonderful staff and girls to offer.
