This. in newer cars I think that it automatically disables if the seat doesn't register a minimum weight.
either way I would never do this as a regular arrangement for a child that age OP. Hatzlacha!

My 13.5 yo only if we absolutely need it, otherwise not and no one younger than him. I'm fine with my 15 yo who is getting into men's sizes.

At around 13-14. But my kids are short.
I think it used to be the legal age 14 or was it 12? Now they go by height and lbs. According to that, I'm just about allowed to sit in the front...
