My oldest really likes The Weekly Parashah, which is illustrated retells each parashah with the midrashim built in and has side notes. It is aimed at ages 8 and up. Its only drawback is that 2 of the 5 volumes have not been published yet. So you can only buy Bereishis, Shemos, and Bamidbar now.
