Depends what you call not leaving the house.
Skver people don't leave the house for 30 days, unless it is to sleep over somewhere.
Others mostly do go out to runs errands or take their children to their buses.

With one of my sons bris I was so sick I brought my baby to shul then told my MIL that I forgot something at home, went home and went to sleep for an hour maybe more came back at the end of the meal. Best thing I did, wish I did it for a different boy.

OP where do you live that this is your reality?
Not to go out for 6 weeks? To have never heard that mothers go to brissim?
I went to all 5 of my sons' brissim. The mohel told me that the moment when the baby cries is a tremendous eis ratzon and the parents can daven for the future of the child and the whole family.
Maternity leave is officially 6 weeks. But I am driving around within 2 days. Usually people take over my carpools for the first week or two.
