My allergy prone child just vomited after eating a cupcake with sprinkles. Could he be allergic to food coloring or something else in the sprinkles?

Aren't sprinkles made with egg white?

What is your kid allergic to?

ETA ok, just did a search. No egg, but yes to corn starch and corn syrup.

And sugar.

And I'm wondering if there is an oil involved, so maybe that also a consideration

Food coloring can definitely do this, especially when used intensely. My dc can't have red, specifically; also a gastric response vs hives or a rash. And being that some yellow dyes list red as an ingredient, we stick to blue and green. And look out for weird places that the red shows up.

I looked at the ingredients of the cupcakes and he was not allergic to any. He is allowed eggs in baked goods.
But I dont know if he was ever tested for food coloring. Is that a thing?
He vomited a ton.

So you have an ingredients list? I think some sprinkles have wax.

What do you mean by the bolded?

I didnt see any rash. He just vomited 3 times in quick succession, and then sneezed a few times. That was basically it.
(A previous time he had an allergoc reactuon, he had vomitting, lots of sneezing and mucus coming out, and eventually trouble swallowing. This time he seemed fine after a few sneezes)

Red food coloring is in all kinds of processed foods.
