I made this for a brunch and everyone loved it!!
Its also a great way to use up stale bread.
2 T. dark Karo syrup
1/2 lb margarine (or butter)
1 Cup brown sugar
12 slices of bread, crust removed and cut into cubes
In a medium saucepan, heat first 3 ingredients, stirring until syrupy.
Pour mixture into a 9 x 13" pan. then top with bread cubes.
Beat together:
5 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp (pure) vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pour over top of bread and refrigerate overnight.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Actually, if you want you can reduce the sugar a bit and add thinly sliced apples.

My breakfast consists of cereal and milk but we'll keep it in mind.

I noticed this recipe when I was looking through my cookbooks last week. You may want to keep in mind for the 9 days too!

I served a similar one on Shavuos (it had canned peaches resting in brown sugar and butter on the bottom of the pan) and it was a real winner. Easy to make and yummy to eat!

I make a version of this recipe about every other week, to use any leftover challah. I just soak the bread in milk, add 6 eggs or so, a little sugar and cinnamon, and bake, no overnight resting or anything.
What does this part do?
