My husband’s grandmother was kaila. Lots of cousins have the name but I’m not sure if I like it.( Does it make you think of an African American? )

Common Chassidish name. Sounds regal and beautiful to me, reminds me of "kalla"
Kaylie is a cute nickname, pronounced "Kyloo" by us though
esp if lots of her cousins have it she'll like it more
I dont know the meaning
can give it as a second name maybe if you're not so crazy about it?

I don’t like it personally. But it’s a common name so I don’t think people will think anything of it.

Not crazy about it but it could be worse. Fairly easy to pronounce. Don't like Kaylie at all esp. since it sounds like Keili Keili lama azavtani.

Also not so into it maybe because it's a Yiddish name and I prefer Hebrew names.

It was my grandmother's name and my daughter and some nieces and cousins are named after her. I happen to think it's a pretty name and I would have used it even if it hadn't become trendy.
ETA: We spell it Kayla though.

I think its a very pretty name. I only use Hebrew names so I wouldn't use it. But I think it's a really nice name.

Chassidish havara is Kylie.
Pretty trendy secular name right now.

My daughter's name.
Named after a grandmother. When she was born, I didn't love it, so we called her by her other name. (Grandmother had 2 names).
Now I love the name.

Not chassidish. Is it still common?

I know several Kailas and none of them are chassidish. I wouldn't call it a common name but it's definitely used and considered normal.

How is Kaylie pronounced Kyloo in the chassidish havarah? I get the "Ky" part, but what makes "ee" become "oo"? Usually the chassidish havarah works in the reverse, with "oo" becoming "ee".

It's the uh that is becoming ooh.
I assume it's a kametz.

Ehm.. What is wrong with it that it sound African American? If an African American guy is called Joseph would you not name your child Joseph because of that?

I think the spelling is קיילא or קילא with a kametz under the the lamed.
קיילי is a nickname like when Sarah becomes Sury.
