I’m thinking about getting a night nurse and was wondering how it works.
Where does she stay? What do I need to provide in terms of food? And what can I expect to pay?

Thanks!

If I don’t have a nursery/ extra bedroom is having a nurse not an option? Can she stay in a playroom/den or is that not nice to ask?

Mine stayed on the sofa in the playroom. She was told before and she was fine with it. Officially she slept during the day and was supposed to be able to be up with the baby when she came to work. But when the baby was sleeping she rested on the sofa and it was totally fine. You don't need a bedroom if they are only there 12 hours.

If you put a bed in the den/ playroom then it might be ok. But you and dh and any other kids should stay out of that room while she’s trying to take care of the baby, or sleep. If you want to eat supper or shmooze do it before she arrives, unless you have a separate eating area in the kitchen. I’d also disclose the sleeping arrangements when you hire her so there’s no surprises.

Mine slept on the couch. 100$ a night 12 hrs 8nto 8 or 9 to 9. We didn't have a spare room. A 24 hr nurse needs a bed. Per the agency.

Any room is fine as long as there’s a bed in there for her and a crib/bassinet for the baby. As well as all the equipment she needs.

Was it in a closed room, or like the living room? Can I ask where you are located and which agency you used?

When my last baby was born I had a few doulas come help at night, for 2-3 weeks. Long story short, I had been hospitalized after baby was born due to complications & my husband was also hospitalized at the same time due to a life-threatening health issue. It was a very difficult recovery. Anyways, I don’t have an extra room or bed, so the doula stayed in our living room with the baby (as needed) and slept on the couch & would bring baby to my bedroom to nurse as needed. Cost was about $30 - $40 an hour, and that was about 4 years ago. Doulas provided their own food in my case. The doulas were worth every penny and amazing to work with.
