I just want to thank all of you who responded and helped me see the big picture here and the value of saying YES when there's not a real reason not to. I didn't have a chance to respond yesterday afternoon, but I did read each message (I see now a few more trickled in overnight along the same lines), and they really helped me settle my mind. Also gave me a way to explain to my husband why I was doing what I was doing (not that he would have raised a fuss but maybe he would have wondered).
My daughter went to sleep last night happily with her new dress hanging in her closet.
