Our Rav does not agree with this. He holds that the stone method, as mentioned above, is necessary.

I'm trying to decide if I should get inserts, or do the stone/water process (we own a brick with tongs.) First year in this house with staineless sinks. (I used to have ceramic/porclain which couldn't be kashered.)

I used to use the stone/brick and borrowing an Immerser from the sink immerser gemach. We were able to then use our stainless steel sinks. We did that for 16 years. The last 2 years I’ve been kashering using boiling water from a kettle and using sink inserts. I actually find this much easier.
