We want to plant a small vegetable garden with the kids this summer. What are some tips to get it growing quickly so the kids see results? And where near Lakewood is the best place to buy supplies? Thanks

If want to go economical shoprite in Howell had 4 tomato plants for 2.50. Probably bec they are in bad condition. But we planted in planters and they are doing great and recovered quickly.
Personally I like things that grow faster like cherry tom bec it goes faster. I like planters on porch or neat door bec easier to check on and enjoy.

All I have to add here is to protect your plants from animals. Nothing like growing vegetables that feed the neighborhood pests and none left for you

Any good ideas how to do that? Someone wrote in another thread that they planted cayenne pepper plants in between all the vegetables and it worked.

I'm not sure. They enjoyed my jalapeno peppers.

This is going to sound really weird, and I can't vouch for it. But my husband was recently at the DMV and somehow got to talking with one of the women working there (older American lady), and mentioned I've been planting with the kids and she shared some tips that she learned from her Grandpa! She said, you know all the hair that's in your girls' brushes? Pull it out and plant it into the ground with your plants! (I told you it was going to be weird!) She said that keeps animals away.
I haven't tried it, I don't usually have animal problems. But somehow I feel like as weird as that sounds, it probably works!

There's a YouTube channel, Garden Like A Viking, which is still very small, and which has really great tips.
https://m.youtube.com/channel/.....bcThg
I like how how his videos are based in a home garden, and his how-tos very basic. Anyone can garden off of his recommendations.
