Marrow bones are a must! It makes it creamy and rich and delish!

Sometimes I’d do bbq sauce instead of ketchup, I’ve done a bit of Cayenne spice, some people add hawajj, all depends on your taste,

Kishke also adds lots of flavor especially if you crumble it directly into the cholent.

can't find where I live and I can't seem to make a cholent I like without it Sad

Make sure there is enough water (more than you think you need) and put in a few tablespoons of oil. Delish.

Looking to spice it up a little (not literally) and trying to figure out what I can add. Right now I do fried onions (should I do garlic also?), beans, meat, potatoes, cholent spice and ketchup.

Curry, nutmeg, ketchup, pepper and salt

You like that? I can’t stand when a cholent has baked beans. You can always taste them and it tastes fake to me

Never heard of that, doesn’t it come out overly salty?

The best trick I’ve “discovered” is putting kishka directly in (not wrapped up) so that it becomes part of the cholent. Makes it taste amazing!

(For those who also like to eat the kishka separately you can wrap up a part of it separately in addition to the part you put directly in)

I thought I was the only one who puts baked beans in the chulant!

Also, I put in 2 kishkas. One I unwrap and mash up, one I add regular. It gives the chulant a really yummy flavor and texture.

We also add a big dollop of tomato paste. Not sure why this works, but it does.

Same here. When I just do ketchup and leave out the tomato paste, it's really missing the extra flavor.

I try to put a few ladles of my chicken soup especially when I'm cooking up a mass batch and it's very good, shouldn't be salty unless you over-salt your chicken soup.also put in sauteed onions.

No water, chicken soup or broth only! I use store bought chicken broth most of the time. It’s not overly salty like someone asked, I even salt it along with my spices also. Comes out heaven every week!

I don’t even fry onions, just meat, barley, onion soup mix, spices, ketchup, chicken broth

This will sound funny but I use a little duck sauce
In addition to a little ketchup, bbq sauce, onion soup mix, kishka.. a little sugar or Splenda
It does make a difference when I add sautéed onions but I’m usually too lazy. If I have important guests (I hardly ever do) then I’ll spend the time sautéing onions and meat.
