What age does a child usually begin to have playdates?

When the parent arranges it for them.

Sure it's normal. I'm not interested in babysitting a 3 year old. They're way too young for play dates.

I don't arrange play dates for my kids. They arrange it themselves.

I started making playdates for my 3 year old because I wanted company, but at that age the parents still stay. Now she's 4 and I drop her at a friend's house.
She has a friend though who's the youngest of many and the mom never plans playdates for the little one because she's too busy dealing with everyone else's schedule

3 year old usually needs parents so it’s annoying. I started at 4 but it wasn’t serious until 5

Is this different for girls and boys?
My daughter is 3-1/2 and she has playdates at least 3 days a week. The mothers never stay, and I don't usually feel like I'm babysitting unless the dynamic isn't working. I know already which of her friends she plays nicely with and to me it's a huge help to have someone for her to play with

I think where you live makes a difference? I live in a spread out area. My 3 year old has play dates about once or twice a month but that’s also because it involves drop off and or pickup. She’ll go over or have neighbors but they aren’t as easy as her school friends dynamic wise so it’s less often.

My 3 year olds only had neighbor play dates. If it wasn't working out, I was able to send them home easily.
My now 4 year old doesn't have playmates. He has enough neighbors to play with and I have a long afternoon of different kids coming home different times, tutors, clubs...even on Sundays.

3 is super young for a playdate. They have friends at school, def enough social time. Don't need to over extend yourself out of school hours:)

I started around 5 and only one or two kids so I could get to know them well and that way it was easier to have them over. Short playdates. Mostly we played with neighbors.
