My 2.5 yr old has been a fever every night since friday
Shes been complaining that it hurts down there..
I took her to the doc today and they did a urine test which the doctor said is a presumptuous uti
And we should start on antibiotics while they send it for further testing..
question is, should I start w the antibiotics or can I give probiotics till tests come back??
I dont want to give her antibiotics for nothing

My sister had chronic utis from when she was 6 months old, she had some sort of kidney immaturity that caused the urine to.back up. She needed surgery to have it repaired and has been uti free since.
Give her antibiotics now and add on the prebiotic to help counteract the side effects if you want. It's not a one or the other type of situation.

If it’s a presumptuous UTI, it probably means that the rapid urine test was positive, and they are sending it out to the lab to see exactly what organism is growing.
Start her on the antibiotics, and you can give her a probiotic an hour or two after so she shouldn’t have side effects but if she’s having a fever, definitely give her antibiotics. Don’t wait

Untreated UTIs can lead to kidney damage so I would 100% give the antibiotics. Ear infections I wait out but not UTI.

Of course give the antibiotics! Have you ever had a UTI?? It’s really painful and very torturous!

Sorry to nitpick but the word you are looking for is “presumptive” not “presumptuous”

TY. Some medical adjectives do sound like personality assessments, like a "migratory" pain, "pernicious" anemia, "fulminating" ulcerative colitis, and "opportunistic" infections, but "presumptuous" is not one of them.
