Could it be fungal if it's yellow crusty and sticky seepy . That's when it's at its worst. Other times it's just red close to the hole. Also the Neosporin and mupirocin do help just it keeps coming back. Thinking it wouldn't help at all if it were fungal. But yeah I should make an apt.

Have you tried titanium?
That was the only type of metal that worked for a family member.
One of my kids can only have hoops. The studs don’t allow enough air around the ear. She kept on getting infections until we switched to the hoops.
In the meantime, mupirocin should be put on twice daily until it’s completely healed.

Mupirocin has to be used 3 times a day for a few days in a row in order to work.

My daughter's hole got a staph infection, though I don't know what we were prescribed to put on it...

My earring holes were a constantly infected and irritated mess for years until I tried some niobium earrings. Now I can tolerate niobium, titanium, and platinum. No gold, and silver only for short periods.

Like others Said, if it clears up and then comes back it's likely to be an allergic reaction. My dd can only wear plastic so far from all the earrings we've tried. Some of the others are ok in the beginning and then become infected, so I suspect there's a very thin coating that she's not allergic to that wears off and the inner metal is something she's reacting to. Not sure though.

Needs a doctor. Make sure you remove and disinfect her earrings every day too.

saline is best. I only wear earrings from simply whispers and they sell a gel I keep at home. it'snot expensive and really works.
also daily shower helps - the steam is very cleansing.
