Depends when it was made. I’ll give my kids Cholent until Tuesday because it doesn’t come off the crock pot until shabbos afternoon. Chicken which is made on Friday, I’ll serve until Monday.

I generally don't have any leftovers other than soup. Soup, farfel, and kugel that were made on Friday we would eat till Monday. If they were made on Thursday we eat it on Sunday. Cholent only Sunday. I cook fish on Thursday and wouldnt eat it after shabbos.

Till they are done. I would never think to throw anything out. That is pure baal tashchit. Sometimes we eat it on sunday and then we take it for lunch until it is done.

Cholent is the only thing I'll throw out if not finished.
No offense to those who eat it after Shabbos, but the thought of leftover cholent to me is just 🤢

Op, do you only have leftovers from Shabbos? You never mentioned Shabbos leftovers specifically but sounds like that's what you mean.

We eat Shabbos leftovers until Wednesday. My husband usually has them for lunch. Depending on how much is leftover, we'll also have for dinner Sunday and maybe another night.

Other leftovers from during the week we usually have Thursday.

I would plan for up to 3 days. But if it's been more than that and the food looks/smells fine, gets reheated, etc, then I'd end up eating it.
Not sure what you mean by too old, though... If it's just not your preference then it won't help what others do. If it's about food safety, then that's different

I freeze some things motzai shabbos. Chumous and techina if it's fresh.
Soup, we eat till Wednesday (I throw out on Thursday) but I don't ever reheat the whole pot, just each plate in the microwave.
Everything else usually gets finished by Mon/Tues

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but my two year old begs to differ 😆

How is eating food past its fresh date Baal tashchis? That’s not the definition of it. It means wasteful throwing away of food that is still edible.

If fridge is kept cool (door not open too much in hot kitchen, food not put into fridge until max luke warm or cooler) & food managed well, not out way too long, I find that basically all food can last a week, from cooked on Thursday, until Wed, maybe Thursday. We have not had any problems thank God.

Take-out, restaurant leftovers I will toss much sooner after 1 or maybe max 3 days depending on food, ie fish or meat will not keep long.
