My neighbor told me once that she only gives her kids names from Tanach. I’m just curious if there is a mesora for this or if any particular group holds this way because it is clear that names like Chaim/Chaya, Dov, Aryeh, Meir, Shoshana etc. have mesora and are used by charedi people so is there a particular reason that they only stick to Tanach?
And common ones at that, because I doubt she would use, say, Boaz or Avishag.
Just curious, not trying to judge. My kids have a combination of uncommon biblical, common non biblical, common biblical, and animal names and it never occurred to me that anyone would veto accepted names for any reason.

I was told by a friend that they were told that if you are not naming after someone to only take a tanach name. That was the first time I had ever heard this.
