The Baby. That works perfectly unless you have twin boys, in which case Thing One and Thing Two work better.

I have a bunch of boys. We use kooky nicknames, usually based on a character or a reference to something or even just something really outlandish we heard. One boy we called Seven (yes, Seinfeld reference for those in the know). Another we called Yoda because he looked like Yoda (ok, I know all newborns kinda look like Yoda, but this one really really did). You get the picture.

Yingele, boychik and some random nicknames. Somehow each boy ends up with their own weird one.

Until his bris, we just kept referring to him by his utero nickname, which was Tadpole.

I think it’s because it sounds like shaygetz? Because he’s not Jewish without a bris?

We called our preemie Tzaddikl or Tzaddik until his bris and at the time it was standard for all the NICU frum unnamed baby boys. I’m surprised only one person has said the same.

Agree. There’s a koach in the name a child is called by which has an effect on them.

A relative whose babys bris was expected to be very delayed was advised to do the naming by the pidyon haben. I dont think it could help you, op, but maybe it could help others. She said it was such a relief for her to call her baby by his name especially since they had to wait a long time for the bris.

Mazal Tov OP.

(as we were told, bizmano refers to whenever it's the right time for this baby to have his bris. May he be zocheh in the right time and in good health)

We started out calling our baby Teeny (for Tinok) which somehow got changed to Yingele which morphed into Lingele cuz that's how how older sister pronounced it and then shortened it to Lingy.

Even after his bris he was Lingy - I have a text from one of the therapists asking if Lingy is up for his session - he must have been at least 8mo at the time, many months post bris!

FWIW our Rov said not to call him pre-bris by any name we planned on giving. We couldn't even use it on the birth certificate (which needed a real name)

(but we also didn't think to ask if the bris could be given while he was on his extended hospital stay. It pays to ask...)

B'hatzlacha and refuah shelaima!

I think I read on here that someone called their preemie baby boy Billy Rubin until the bris.

If you are in the nicu you get it Smile

Refua sheleima to your little one and wishing you strength and simcha through this challenge.
