There is someone I know from a previous lifetime who lost a loved one and due to the proximity of YK there was no shiva. What is appropriate now with sukkos? Call? Write a letter/card? Wait until after yom tov?

When I was sitting shiva I appreciated phone calls. I would say definitely call, even today. If the person you're calling doesn't pick up, just leave a message saying that you heard the terrible news and are very sorry. If you can, say the passuk.
