I had united healthcare community plan with my first, and I never needed a prescription for a breast pump. I just called the number on my card and they told me I could get the spectra or medela and they sent it to my house. I now have fidelis medicaid and when I called the number on the card they told me my care provider has to write a prescription but I can go anywhere to get it filled. How do I know what pumps are covered? Is there a specific type they cover? Where do I get a pump from? I live in NY but not Brooklyn

Looks like the one covered are:
Evenflo Deluxe
Zomee Z2 Double Electric Breast
Ameda Mya Joy Double Electric Breast Pump
I never heard of any of these! Anyone have these and can recommend?
Would a different website cover different pumps like the spectra?

My doctor asked me if I want one. I figured a new one would be nice. I received the zomme and I'm happy with it.

Which options are covered?
If this is your first/ primary pump then your best bet is Spectra. I looked into this extensively and that seems to be the bottom line. The rechargeable one is better, I think that's s1, because then you aren't as limited to where you can use it.
But if you already have a primary pump and you're looking for, say, a wearable option, there are more factors to consider and a bigger variety of options you could play with.

ill write back later with the exact ones covered. I have a medela from my first I liked it. I stopped pumping after a month but I really hope to nurse this next baby. and once I return to work ill pump at work. I dont know if I need a wearable one. I dont mind sitting and being plugged in. should I just go with the spectra?

So if you have a Medela and like it, then spectra would probably be redundant. If you pump both at work and at home then get another one of what you have and like to keep one at work. If not, maybe try something different like small/portable or wearable. If you're not interested because you're happy with the one you have then either skip it altogether, or get another of what you like in case yours dies.

You girls are so lucky. Pumps weren't covered by insurance when my kids were born, unless you had an infant in NICU.

Thats a good point. Well, if I plan on nursing, why would there be a need to pump at home when I am with the baby?
