So it looks like just a piece of a plastic that you wrap around the cake and then use a piping bag to frost. They are flexible plastic cutting boards or placemats that you could probably use to substitute. Use a large Ziploc bag instead of a piping tube if you need. You can cut a panel out of an orange juice carton made of plastic to be a smoothing tool or any of the shaping tools. I would think that maybe you would need to spray the plastic with oil spray so that it doesn't stick and ruin the finish of your frosting.
The trick seems to be to have the plastic a consistent distance away from your cake.
Or you could buy it as an investment and sell cakes to make up the money!

Seems to me it's another silly thing. Professionals don't use frost form AFAIK.
Learn to decorate and pipe frostings and decorations the professional way.
