Some quick background. From a young age (a few months) my DD would get a hefty croupy cough that would last 2-3 weeks a few times a year. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong and we would just let it run it's course.

Fast forward she is now 10 years old. Around rosh hashana she had a really bad cough that wouldn't go away. I took her to the doctor and they thought it was bronchitis and prescribed anti biotics. She still had a cough a few weeks after finishing the medication and the doctor said the cough can linger for a few weeks. We are now almost at Chanukah, her cough never went away. It's not as bad as it was back in Sept/Oct, but still harsh. I contacted the doctor again last week and she sent us for chest x-rays which BH came back clear. The doctor said to give it another month and then bring her in if it's not gone.

My poor daughter is miserable. She said her stomach muscles hurt from all the coughing. She tells me her brain feels like it's exploding with the constant movement of coughing. It's actually not bad when she sleeps, but pretty hefty and frequent during her waking hours. She hates medication and would rather cough than take a cough suppressant. Any ideas how to help get rid of the cough and/or at least make her more comfortable.

It might be silent reflux.

Reflux or allergies ( even without sneezing, drippy nose or itchy eyes).

In the meantime, try an allergy medicine just to rule it out. Speaking from personal experience.

It could be a habit cough. This happened with a couple of my kids. Though it didn’t start so young.

I will mention asthma to the Dr. My older 3 all either have asthma right out or allergy(pollen)/exercise induced asthma. So it seems to run in the family.

Thanks!
