I live in NY and would like to renovate my small basement. I need some ballpark numbers to figure out if we can do this or not.
It's a very small basement.
20' long and 10' wide + bathroom. The bathroom is there but needs to be redone. Walls, floors, ceiling/lights.
Around how much will this cost me?

Call in a contractor for the estimate. And then add on a couple thousand dollars for the unexpected.

I don't want to waste time running after contractors unless I'm ready for the project.

and a few more thousand for the pretty things.

Last winter, We put up two walls, two closets, painted two rooms and put down flooring. The basement was already finished. No electric work, no plumbing.
The job was $15000.
Then we needed beds etc. that cost us another $2000+

Rule of thumb used to be $100 per sq ft but in this economy its more like $150-$200.

I did one a number of years ago that included waterproofing and sump pump installation, carpeting, lighting, and a big walk in closet for storage. It was approximately 400sf. That cost us $35K.

I did a bare minimum job recently. Just flooring, walls, painting etc.. it was $25,000 and wasn’t an amazing contractor. I imagine a normal job is probably closer to 50,000 minimum.
