I have a wig that is old and not worth sinking a lot of money into, but I can't part with it either. I want to dye it darker. I used to dye my mother's hair so it's not an entirely foreign concept to me, but is there anything I should know before doing it to my shaitel? Is there any brand that is better than another?

I did it using regular box dye, L’Oréal I think. If you want to have some “highlights” than wrap some strands in aluminum foil to keep the old, faded color there. I kinda smooshed the dye onto those strands at the top to make a gradient.

Oh, if it’s a lace front it’s more complicated because you’ll need to protect the lace, but there’s a ton of videos from the black community on YouTube on how to do that.

If it's a fall with no scalp it can be done at home.
If it has a white cap/a scalp, that will get colored and ruined, so worthwhile to bring it in to have done.
