It’s not a common name in yeshivish circles right now, but do you think now it will be? Would you name your son this? I don’t want him to be 1 of 15 in his class with the same name, but also don’t want super-uncommon that he’ll get made fun of.

I know several people who are called Mattis. All ages. But as the above poster said, it will be a really popular name now. It’s be like Eli Meir or Nosson Tzvi of a few years ago.

Think it's a typical name... not like Avrohom but not odd in the slightest

You want MORE than 1/15 to be named Mattisyahu? I don't think anytime soon
But I don't think there are more than 1/15 Shlomos either.

Obviously not a navi, but I suspect there will be a wave of Matisyahus in Lakewood and Lakewood Adjacent.
But it still will only be a few in each class.
One of my son's has 3 Yosef Shalom's in his class, 9 in his grade (shortly after R Elyashiv).
Another son has 4 Refael Shmuel's in his class and 3 in the class younger than him (R Shmuel Birnbaum).
The grades with all the Nosson Tzvis still only have 4-5.

And these are very common names, themselves.

I anticipate that in 5 years, a typical Lakewood primary will have a few Matisyahus. But not more than 3 per class.

I think it's pretty common. I know many mattisyahus and mattis. One of kids second name is mattisyahu and I love it.

There will probably be a boom with the name now just like batsheva after rebetzin kanievsky. My daughter was born shortly after she passed away and she has seven batsheva/shevys on her class of 19.
