My sweater got stained but I don't want to do a load just for that.
Can I do the sweater in a tablecloth load?

I wouldn't. You'd be better off washing the sweater by hand in a sink, rolling it up in a towel to squeeze out excess water, and laying it flat to dry. The sweater will likely leave lint all over the tablecloth, and machine washing is not the best thing for sweaters. It tends to stretch them out of shape. In any case, by hand washing you can concentrate your efforts on the stain itself; no machine in the world can do that for you.

The machines today adjust the cycle according to the weight. You don't waste water by washing the sweater on its own. It needs its own tender love and care.
