For a kiddush in the home like for a baby - would you do more real food than choldent, kugle, herring? If so what?
Also with hot food does one "need" to spend on hard plastic plates or is paper ok?

Adding in some Sephardic kiddush food because no one else has really mentioned - we have kibbeh, Moroccan cigars, lachmagine, and these really good spicy empanada things. They are always the big hits. For the more substantial food there might be Moroccan chicken, meatballs with peas, chicken stuffed with rice, beef kabobs. Dessert always varies, lots of petit fours, babkas, donuts, cannolis, chocolate truffles etc. Women definitely eat, I'm not passing all this up lol.

This sounds like lunch to me, not kiddush.

Are we talking sit down kiddush or stand up because maybe I'm just socially awkward but if I am trying to balance my plate, utensils and cup and not bump into anyone I would skip most of what's on this thread and stick to something that isn't awkward to eat.

So interesting! In my community we rarely have savory foods, besides chulent and kugel in about half of them. It's basically sweets of all sorts, fruits and salads.
