Oleander, I'm with you completely!! I feel the same as you. I wish I did remember titles and authors though because some were so good that I wish I could reread them.

This is a great thread! Thank you OP and all contributors.

Some books I found life changing:
Awareness (introduced me to the Ennegram personality typing system)

Dual discovery-.a fictional account of the 10 makkos- one of the best written books/novels on the Jewish market.

How to talk to Kids so kids will Listen

Real Power (introduced me to NLP )

Just want to confirm, when people recommended "Raising a Loving Family", was everyone referring to Rabbi Russell's book or some were referring to Virginia Scott?

For anyone who enjoyed Dual Discovery, try reading The Last Slave. Similar idea (set during this time period) but written way better.

What’s the point of reading if it flies out the window?

They say (inspirational/informative) reading is like eating. You don’t necessarily remember what you eat but you grow from it.

I like every one I've tried! Pick the one for your kids age, or go with the classic.

I was thinking of Deep Blue by Gottesman in these terms. Personality changing.

I didn't end up marrying someone in longtime learning but this book idealizes and romanticizes the lifestyle in a way that makes you long for it. I think it should be required reading in schools.

That is so interesting. I think Gottesman wrote an earlier book called Chaimkel the Dreamer and that had me so wistful to live in a house with a shul. I still carry that dream somewhere even though DH actually grew up with a shul and wouldn’t do it.

He is probably the only ethereal Jewish writer… his books really made you think.

Love this thread. OK, here goes...

Man's search for meaning

Whole brain child
How to talk so kids would listen
Blessing of a skinned knee
Free range kids

How to manage your home without losing your mind- by A Slob comes clean

Wow, the more I think the longer my list. But I wouldn't take any off!

While none were life changing on their own, they each had amazing, inspiring lessons that definitely left an impact. I reserve life changing for when my children were born... Very Happy

I think he even wrote "Shpeter" before that. I used to read it when I was young (many years ago) and it would really make me wonder. He's a great author.

I loved The Thinking Jewish Teenager's Guide to Life by Rabbi Akiva Tatz when I read it in high school.

Ask The Rabbi by Rabbi Chaim Mintz goes through just about every topic in Judaism and breaks it down so clearly.
