It is! That’s why it’s concerning.

There have been cases of precocious puberty in infants.

My three year old had the same thing and is completely fine. His armpits don’t smell anymore. Maybe a lot of babies have smelly armpits. I am just of the minority who put there noses there to smell it.

One of my babies had a bit of blood in her diaper and the nurse said it's just because the baby gets some of the mom's hormones at birth. I would imagine this is similar. Hormones cause body odor just like they cause periods.

What made you want to smell it? Are you sure you're not holding your baby in a certain way so that when you lean close enough to smell, you're actually closer to your own armpits and smelling your own?

Well. I work with babies. A lot of them smell. The neck rash.. the diaper area…
I want my baby to smell good.
I wash her neck and apply baseline
I keep her diaper are clean and apply A&D
I keep her hair cradle cap free
I noticed her armpits were a tiny bit red so I smelled it…

If there's red under I would think maybe eczema, yeast or bacteria all of which cause body odors

sometimes milk/spitup/drool can "leak" down to babies underarms. Doesn't hurt to do a wipe down with a baby wipe around neck folds, armpits and diaper area.
