Are they different names? Or can Shiri be a nickname for Shira?
Does it work in Israeli Charedi society? I have met Charedi Shiras and Shiris but I thought Rav Chaim didn’t like the name Shira. If it makes a difference I would pair it with a more traditional name, right now I’m thinking Yehudis or Chaya.
I’m just thinking about Shira lately because it is an exact translation for a relative who didn’t have a Hebrew name as far as we know, and I prefer matching meanings to matching sounds. But I prefer the sound of Shiri.

I thought so too. And I asked my FIL and he told me rav chaim said to name shira. My MIL had a very hard high risk pregnancy.
Were sefardi though so maybe thats why? I dunno. But everytime I say that on this website people tell me I am lying.

I think Shiri can be its own name or a nickname for Shira. I know a Shiri and I’m pretty sure that’s her real name.

I know a lot of people who asked that shaila to rav chaim, sometimes he said its good, sometimes he said its not. I guess it was dependent on specifics.
