My baby is only 9 weeks old and is constantsly grumpy my mom and sisters keep telling me they are nervous about him because he doesnt make eye contact yet.
I keep telling them he is a twin and was born 2 weeks early. His twin makes eye contact and is a very happy in general. You cant really compare them as evey baby is different to another.
Is there something I should worry about being that hes only 9 weeks old?
TIA

1. Up until a child is 2 yrs old, you should take his prematurity into account when determining whether or not he is meeting developmental milestones. So, in your child's case, the question is whether you should be worried that he's not making eye contact at HIS equivalent of 7 weeks.
2. Children generally should be making eye contact by around 2 months. I wouldn't wait longer than 3 months to to see a professional.
3. If you're worried, and you're pediatrician tells you "don't worry", I wouldn't stop there. I would want to speak to some sort of developmental eye doctor (one that specializes in pediatrics).

Im going to the pediatrition next week for their 10 week checkup. I will defineately ask him.
He does focus from time to time for a second though. My husband thinks my family is just being nerotic. If the doctors concerned I will do as told.
Thanks for the advice.

My son also wasn't giving us much eye contact at 9 weeks. He would look at me sometimes, but for the most part, instead of looking at us, he'd prefer to look at pictures on the wall or books on the shelf. We were concerned, but the doctor said that as long as he occasionally looks at us and smiles he's developing fine. Now, at 3 months, he has amazing focus with his eyes always following me around and he has the most beautiful huge smiles.
Also, our son was grumpy when he was 7 to 9ish weeks old, then we realized that he probably wasn't getting enough sleep. Since then, I've been forcing him to take more naps during the day, and putting him to bed around 7pm every night (and, although he wakes up every 3 hours just to eat, he doesn't get up for the day until 7am). Now, he's super happy and developing much faster, I think!
Not sure if any of this applies to your situation, but in my opinion, there's probably nothing to worry about at this point.

I panicked when my dd had weak eyes as an infant - the dr said for some babies this is normal - we went to an eye specialist - better early just in case ... kept a lookout for the first few years as well ...
definitely ask ask ask - mothers do know best ...

The best advice: ask the doctor. My baby's eyes were scanning continuously - I thought he was very interested in everything, but when my pediatrician saw it at 7 weeks she diagnosed it as nystagmus. He wasn't focusing on anything at all, so it could be this isn't your baby's case. My baby is now almost 8 months and bH doing great - his nystagmus still crops up but he can see and interacts wonderfully, and focuses on me and my husband, his toys, and of course, the phone, my glass cup, and my keys. Odds are your concern is nothing to worry about, as nystagmus is rare, but it can't hurt to ask the doctor.
I'm keeping this anonymous, but if you (or anyone else) wants to discuss this, please post a reply and I'll PM you!

I'm going through the exact same thing now with my 9 week old. I have a eye Dr apt with her next week. I'm so concerned. She doesn't focus on us. She will occasionally give us a smile but I'm not sure that she actually sees us smiling but hears the excitementso she smiles. She doesn't follow toys that we slowly swing at her. I'm totally freaking out! I I'm really concerned 😟. My anxiety is through the roof!

She probably needs glasses. But it’s not the end of the world! She’ll be ok. It’s good you’re going to the eye dr.
My baby needed glasses too.
