I dont think a large necklace will look good because the dress already has a lot of beading detail at the neck.
I would recommend making a small dart in the neckline in the back of the dress. Its not too complicated. A seamstress does not need to take apart the dress, she can make a dart straight thru the material and the lining. Should cost $4-10.

Op here. The beading kind of acts like a necklace so that you don't need one. I think that a scarf would detract from the dress. She wore the same dress to my wedding and I don't remember people having an issue with it.
