I don't, not even for challah. In fact, we don't usually use it for challah. I also don't cook with it much. On the other hand, no one's going to insult me by asking for it...I just don't salt in my food.

I haven't heard about the salt on the table but once when we ran out of salt my husband said we must never let that happened because there is something about always having salt in the home.
when moving to a new home you are supposed to first thing bring salt and bread into the house when you first come in.

That's a minhog, not a holocho, and appears in many other cultures than Judaism. In some cultures the bride and groom carry salt and bread at the wedding ceremony, in others they are given gifts of bread and salt by the wedding guests, in still others they are brought to the couple's new home.

You are supposed to have salt on the table where you are eating always. I'm not sure if it's halacha or a minhag. The reason is that a table is like a mizbeach (altar) and there was always salt on the altar. After you wash you are always supposed to dip the bread in salt, not just on Shabbos.

Never heard the segula part though.

This could be because salt used to be very valuable and therefore, it was looked upon as a necessary gift for the newlyweds. Soldiers were even paid in salt! Where do you think the word salary comes from?

I used to eat at family that put a little salt and pepper shaker by everybody's place!

Aaaahhhh. . . good people.

I just like my food to be very spicy - I put lots of pepper on it as well. Especially in soup.

Defy, I'm surprised that you don't like freshly ground pepper, then. You can get pepper mills that grind it very fine, you know.

Huh, I said that?
I've had a pepper mill for years and use it all the time.

Maybe I just wanted to be contrary.

PEPPERMILL: A Drama

It started innocently one day with an inquiry about a peppermill but little did they know where it would end...

Do you think Bina or Hamodia will serialize it?
