I have a container of Similac that's for 0-6 months old. Can I give it to my 9/10 month old? Will he not be getting stuff that he needs to be getting. He still nurses a little, and he eats some real food too.

If he eats regular foods too and you want to get rid of the can then give it. I'm sure there is not a very big difference.

Has it been opened? Is it expired?

I always assumed it was a marketing thing that they do by marking different formulas for different ages.

That reminds me - I have an old formula that has been opened for 2 years but says it expires August 2010. Can I use it?

No. It's been open too long and can possibly be contaminated with bacteria.

no, its not expired, and had not been opened.
I opened it on friday. I have another open can that is for his age and I use both during the day. so he maybe gets 4 ounces of the 0-6 month formula in a day. is that ok?
I just had this one can for 0-6 months and I dont want to throw it out.

Does the back of the can let you know the nutrient/daily value of everything? Compare it to the other stage of it...
I believe a lot does have to do with marketing, but then again breastmilk does change as a baby gets older, so it really depends how much difference is in the formula...

AFAIK, the formula for older children is actually less nutritiously denst than for younger children as by that stage they should be getting more nutrition from their other food. I would think it should be fine to switch/substitute.
