I got this idea from a different forum and I wanted to see if we could start a thread about healthy, wholesome finger foods to feed our children; even better, things that you can freeze! I have a bunch of ideas and they really help me when I am in desperate need to get something done or the baby is crying etc. I would love to hear any other ideas!

- egg muffins
- granola bars
- HEALTHY waffles/pancakes (oat flour, wheat germ, flax seed, egg, milk, fruit)
- tuna pinwheels
- fish fingers
- chicken nuggets/patties
- soy shnitzels
- veggie burgers
- cheese sticks
- whole grain crackers
- cheese and tomato borekas
- whole grain cheese toast
- whole grain french toast
- beans
- filling soups
- hard boiled eggs
- roasted/boiled veggie sticks
- pasta
- cut up fruits and veggies
- leben/yogurt (open up the foil top a tiny bit and let them drink it - or with a straw)

Anything else?

You're good! I just give cookies, rice cakes etc.
BTW, I just got a kick out of seeing how many things on your list I couldn't give my 1 year old because of his allergies!

how is soup finger food?

I give:
grapes or cherry tomatoes cut in half
fruit or veggies cut in strips with chumus for dipping (the veggies) for the toddler
a sandwich
hard boiled egg cut in quarters
cookies/pretzels
I try the yogurt with a straw but my straws are to thin and the yogurt gets stuck.

oh, and another thing I do is I put lots and lots of extra veggies in my Shabbos chicken soup. That way, I can cut up the veggies (carrot, zucchini, sweet potato, regular potato, kohlrabi, turnip, butternut squash, pumpkin, etc.) into little cubes for the kiddies to eat.

Do you serve that as a meal? I look for foods taht I can serve them and they can feed themselves as a meal so that I don't have to be tied down to spoon feeding and there is no fight lol

Um, your thread title is impossible to understand. Finger foods for infants/toddlers who DON'T feed themselves?

at what age do you start feeding your children meals that are totally self-fed? my 9 month old eats finger foods beautifully, but I'm always worried he is still hungry so I spoonfeed him some baby food or mashed up adult food.

sorry - clarification: ....for infants/toddlers who don't feed themselves WITH A FORK/SPOON

meaning, they can't feed themselves soup, they cant eat cholent from a bowl or plate, etc.

egg muffins are 6 eggs plus 6 Tbsp water and tiny frozen peas all mixed together. Spray a muffin tin real well, divide egg mixture, and bake at 350 until egg is set in the middle. immediately after taking out from oven, run a knife around them to loosen. after they are cool, you can takew tjem out and freeze them.

tuna pinwheels are either tuna in puff pastry rolled up like a deli roll, sliced, and baked, or tuna spread on whole grain bread (flatten first w/ rolling pin), rolled and sliced

cheese and tomato borekas are diced tomatoes and gvina levana in puff pastry

oh, it's very easy! I take 6 eggs plus 6 Tbsp. of water and beat well with a fork. Add a big handful of frozen peas (and carrots, if you want) and mix some more. Spray a muffin tin real well, divide egg mixture into the tin, and bake at 350 until egg is set in the middle - about 10-12 minutes. immediately after taking out from oven, run a knife around them to loosen. after they are cool, you can takew tjem out and freeze them.

oh and also, when you are putting them in the tin, I usually put spoonfuls with more veggies in eah compartment first and then fill the rest up with the egg mixture.
