every time I do crunches lately after about doing 30 I get an intance spasm in my stomach it gets extremely tight and it spasms a bit and then it stops. does anyone know why this happens? am I doing something wrong? thanks

You very likely are doing an improper move, which puts too much strain on a specific muscle in the abdominal area. You should learn how to do it correctly or stop doing that move. Switch to something else.

did you have a baby recently (last 6 months) ? are you doing them up and down or also side to side.
if you recently had a baby your stamach muscle might still be apart (as they do when you are pg) and by doing side to side crunches you are hurting that muscle.... only up and down would be fine.

I think it happens if there is food in your body. You're not suppose to eat 1 hour before exercising.
