To make a long story short, DH and I are both getting laid off at the same time. We have some saved money and are looking into new job prospects, but I'd like to look into social services (food stamps, medicaid, wic) as well for the time being.

The websites all say that you need to bring a recent pay stub or letter from your employer testifying to your salary.

How do I prove that there is NO income when I have NOTHING to bring?

Thanks.

Do you have letters of dismissal? Bring those.

you also have to apply for unemployment. You will not get social services until you have demonstrated that you have applied for unemployment and brought dismissal letters.

Just go and apply. They will tell you what you need once you've started the process.

Exactly. Most social services like food stamps will pay for food retroactively from the first day you applied, not the day you finally got all the docs together.

So the smartest thing would be to apply initially (get the ball rolling) and they will guide you on what to do/bring for your specific situation from there. Meanwhile you won't lose precious time.

Good luck!

where do you live? in brooklyn, and probably other places too there are frum agencies that help you- tell you what you can get, best time and way to apply etc. you can make an appt to apply through them, or even just call for advice. nachas (718) 436-7373
