Margalit was the name of Viznitzer Rebbetzin, the wife of the Imrei Chaim.

I think they are definitely Jewish names and I personally think Margalit is a beautiful name. I know a beautiful girl called Margalit but most people call her Maggie which she doesn't mind. funnily enough I also think Maggie is such a pretty and cute name/nickname

If it makes a difference, I think the word was adopted from Greek, like many words in Mishnaic hebrew. IMO, it shouldn't make a difference, it's definitely no less Jewish than Yiddish names, but YMMV.

Margalit is Hebrew for pearl. I SO wanted this as a name and DH vetoed it. I hope you get to use it. It is beautiful!

Yup, a Greek addition to Jewish names, like Alexander 
Margalit is also the wife of rabbi Ovadia Yosef.

I think the Greek name is almost as old as the Greek word. margalit is actually a Hebraicized form of the original word, μαργαριτης (margarites).

Maybe there was no precise word for it so it had to be borrowed? Or something related to penina?
What is possible, is that there was a more generic word for a type of precious stones, and with the need to be precise they borrowed a foreign term...
DH learned it would be penina, from tanach lessons. And it is indeed the same word for pearl and precious stone and coral.
