My husband really wants to name for an Avraham in his family who was recently niftar and likely won't have anyone named for him...but that is my father's name.

Did Avraham have other names according to Midrash? Are their traditional Yiddish names for Avraham? Anyone have any ideas?

Eitan. The Avot, though not just Avraham, were called "Eitanim" --"Mighty Ones".

You could one of the many Av----- name like Avner, Avinoam,Avshalom, Avishai, Avichai and so on, which, like Avraham, are usually nicknamed Avi. Avichai would be kind of clever because it means "my father lives", which is why you're not naming your son Avraham!

there's also a Yiddish name Abish pronounced Ahbish but I couldn't find a meaning for it. The "-ish" in Yiddish is usually an affectionate suffix, so I'm thinking Abish might be a Yiddish equivalent of Abie.
