I'm thinking of buying the Xbox Kinect for my kids for the sake of exercise.
My middle school boys leave home at 7:05am and get home at 6:05pm. They relax in the evenings with books or their DS - limit 30 minutes on school nights.
I read online that kids can figure out how to trick the Wii and just move the controler without moving much, but the Kinect really forces kids to move. Have you found this to be true? It's a lot of money, and I do not want to buy it if myy kids can trick the games into thinking they are moving while they're couch potatoes!

We have it and the kids definitley get a workout - they stop playing when they are red and shvitzy!
I don't see how a person can trick it since it outlines your body and won't move unless you move properly.

We have one, and no, I don't think you can trick it.
Even the game that came with it is a good workout and surprisingly fun.
It has had some trouble following my legs when I wear a skirt, but you say you want it for your boys, so that shouldn't be a huge issue.
We don't use ours enough because we have trouble keeping the space clear. Also, make sure your boys are tall enough for it, I don't think it works so well with people under a certain height.
Be careful when you're buying games-some games with Kinect function only have voice commands. Look for actual exercise or dance games to get them actually moving.
Maybe see if you can find someone else in the area who has one who would let you use it for a little bit so you can see how it works?
