somtimes its not so much what the name means. its who the person is named after.

I would love to have a daughter named for my mother she was a special person!

Cutest nickname I've ever heard for any name ever is for a Charna Leah - she goes by Charlie, which I think is AWESOME.

Bumping this up.
Any more recent meanings found for the name Charna?
I'm trying to find a Hebrew version of it.

It means posting on a thread not to add anything, but to bring it up again to see if people will have more responses.

I have a friend maned Charna. and she IS full of charm....

I have a niece named Charna (plus another name, and she's called by the other name.) She's adorable and charming, and B"AH very pretty. She's a young teen, and already has her own hair-styling business.

My friend has a daughter named after a Charna, her name is Nava, because of the pasuk in Shir Hashirim שחורה אני ונאוה

The meaning of Charna is fine, but I dislike it because a. It’s taken from Russian, not inherently Jewish, and b. It sounds like “charnel” , which means “associated with death”. A charnel house is a building where human remains are deposited. Think of a horror movie in which the hero stumbles on a room full of skeletons. That’s a charnel house.

I also associate charna with charnel, so therefore not a fan. That Nava idea is a cute one.

Charna means black. My mother has that name and her life has literally been black, full of bad things. I believe the meaning of names has an impact on the person. I’d never give the name.

I guess my question should be: If you had a Charna to name after, what Hebrew name would you give instead?

Malka
Nava

Anything else?

Maybe Chana just because it is similar in sound.
