Hi Everyone,
So, my Rabbi and Rebettzin's son is getting bar mitzvahed soon and I'm unfortunately unable to attend. I would really like to send something as a congratulatory gesture. Does anyone here know Waterbury and a place with a reliable hechsher if I were to send food? Is sending food even a good idea?
Or do you have ideas (and maybe links to) a good gift? I have no clue what to get for this child (I don't really even know him), but I love this Rabbi and Rebettzin--they've changed my life and I consider them amazing people. I just don't want my gift to be something they need to throw in the garbage (food-wise) or be thrown forever in a drawer (because it's impractical/boy won't like it/won't use it when he goes off to Yeshiva, etc.)
Gaw, what to buy a 13-year old boy! So many questions. Thanks, ladies, for the answers.

I think it would be better to send a gift to the boy, rather than food..
A few ideas
Gift certificate to a seforim store
A savings bond
Some schools have gift registeries for Bar Mitzvah boys (as a fundraiser for the school), see if his has one.
Tickets to a local amusement park or other museum/attraction for his family
Kiddush cup

Thanks for the advice! Yeah--you're probably right. I'll send it to him c/o his parents. He's in school in Monsey but I'd like his parents to see the gift with him. Much appreciated!!!

I think if you can handle it financially it would be nice to do both. Certainly the gift for the bar mitzvah bochur, but something his parents will appreciate is nice too as your hakoras hatov to them.

Even the kiddush cups looked out of my price range but I'll see. I really want to do something nice. I appreciate the advice...I'll see if there's a way to do both.
