Forces they pull me
Seek to destroy me
I struggle
I thrash
I kick and scream
The current draws me in
Like a million hands
All pulling
Pulling
Holding me in an iron grip
As I squirm
I flail
Trying to get out
Get out
Just let me go
The waves they toss me
Bounce me to and fro
I am helpless
Alone
As I am thrown about
By this black-eyed monster
Until the storm finally hears my cry
And spits me ashore
Where it leaves me
Lying on the ground
Physically spent
Emotionally weak
I feel hollow
Bare
Soaked to the core
But dry-eyed
For I cannot cry
I cannot feel
I am depleted
Sapped of all strength
Nothing left to give.
And then…
I stare at the two pink lines.
The dam bursts
And the tears,
They finally come
As I hear G-d whispering in my ear
“My child,
I know you better than you know yourself,
And I know that somewhere
Deep in your heart
There’s room to love
Just one more”.
