Strengthen kids core?

My 4 yr old son has a weak core and weak upper body. Its not bad enough to warrant OT right now, so how can I go about strengthening it at home?
Also, why does a kid have a stronger or weaker core? Are they born that way? Genetics?

a kid doesn't grow out of that. I had low muscle tone as a child and I took ballet lessons through my teenage years. find a fun sports program for him or her.

There is nothing that strengthens the core as quickly or effectively as Pilates.
