Here are the facts. I'm not sure what the right thing to do is...

1. Childhood friend is having a bridal shower.
2. I am planning on attending the wedding.
3. We are in a very tight financial state right now.
4. We're not youngsters, and I think it would be very appreciated if I attend the shower, as I'm not sure how many of the married friends will be there.
5. I cannot afford both a gift and payment for childcare that I'd need to arrange for my time there.
6. Shower is in another town over, and we're talking about a few hours of babysitting.
7. I don't want to bring my toddler, as it's not appropriate for the occasion, and there will be plenty of single women who may find it hurtful.
8. Ordering and shipping a gift may wind up more expensive than I would have wanted to spend.
9. Bringing a small (shower-type) gift to the wedding may seem tacky...

What would you do?

I would look into finding a babysitter in the town I 'm going to and staying for not more than an hour.

Can you make a gift instead of buying one?

Can you arrange for a friend or family member to watch your toddler for free?

Bring a home-baked cake.

Arrange for a friend to watch your baby, in return for watching hers later that week.
