I'm gaining so much weight lately! I don't get it- I'm on a no sugar diet, shouldn't I be losing weight?!
My skirts don't fit. That hasn't happened in years. I have been the same size forever and Im not one for crazy diets. In fact this diet I am on now (for health reasons) is the first I've been on in years.
I keep thinking and thinking of what has changed in my life in the past two months:

-I'm on a diet. I was warned before starting that I will be losing lots of weight but, um, not happening. I eat some whole wheat bread, lots of salads (on dressing), some fruit and meat. Sometimes whole wheat pizza and pasta but not quite as much as I used to before. The only thing I've added is sweet potato- can that be a cause for such weight gain? like one small sweet potato a day?

-I'm off birth control. I was on the pill for a year and Im off it now.

-it's hotter outside?

-Im a bit more stressed out these days. some people havent been very nice (aham) lately but I doubt that has been bad enough to cause weight gain?
Umm no idea how the last three can be related to weight gain but Im trying to mention everything.

ideas anyone??? Please help me! I dont know if I have to stop eating completely or go back to eating as I used to or ...what?

First of all what do you mean by gaining tons of weight? Do you mean you went up a size or so, or talking about a 20,30 pound gain? Going off sugar shouldn't make you gain a substantial amount of weight.
Birth control might be a factor. But I doubt it would make you gain so much.
As for heat- ??? What?
Stress could play a part. Are you eating when your stressed out?
You don't mention anywhere excersize- a half hour 4-5 times a wk will do wonders.
Obv, if you feel like this is bizarre for you, it doesn't hurt to get some bloodwork done to make sure your hormones are ok.

OP here . THanks for the reply.
I am talking about going up less than a size. Thats a lot for me. My skirts feel tight and I look bad in everything.
I really think I haven't been eating anything that should cause this weight gain. Is it real that one can gain weight stopping pills? Im reading about it now on google and people do claim that but I have never heard of that before!
I am not eating more because of stress- I dont think so...

I don't do enough exercise but I also don't do less than I did before- so why the weight gain now?!

Ahhhh so confused!

Less than a size is less than 10 lbs. how about try for a week to write down everything that you eat. Everything- this way you'll know how many calories youre consuming and if it's contributing to weight gain. Secondly, start excersizing, it'll def help and it will make you feel better. Thirdly, chill, breathe, relax Smile if youre on top of it it shouldnt take too long to lose.

Going off BC alone could trigger weight gain. Here is a link with tons of other women testifying to the same thing even though doctors will tell you that you must be eating more calories, etc
birth control weight gain

Thanks both!
It's a good idea to start charting what I eat but I still think something else needed to change in order for me to gain weight when instead of eating cookies and chocolate I eat salads!

I've read the link- this is exactly how I feel. Has anyone here experienced that?! If, in fact, BC is the reason I'm gaining, what can I do?! If I eat less and escorts or more will it help?or will The hormones still make me gain?

losing weight has more to do with excercise and less to do with diet...proper eating is key to maintaining health and to keep your hormones balanced. also sleep is sooo important. start walking every day for 1 hour...get your heart rate up a bit..u should see results.

You're eating too many calories. Start tracking your calories and figure out what you should be eating daily. Try myfitnesspal.com to help you. I bet you'll see that you are really just eating too much. Just because the food is healthy, doesn't mean you can eat a lot of it. You really have to calculate calories, until you see how many you really do eat in a day. Nibbles and tasting food counts. And if you are getting older, likely you are less active, or if it's hot and that makes you lazy, whatever it is, you may have to eat less because you are not burning the calories you normally do in nice weather.

could be that the sugar you used to eat helped you feel full. now that you are off sugar, maybe you are eating more calories than you used to.

I gain weight in the hot weather too (like a few pounds).

I'm using fitness pal--I'm down nine pounds since feb. it's insanely slow, and I do yoga three times a week (and I'm in cardio during my yoga class, it's vinyasa)

You should check your thyroid, not only tsh, check the free T3 and T4.

Also make sure to eat ONLY WHEN HUNGRY and stop when satisfied. We could gain weight even on healthy foods, if our body does not need the food. So just listen to your body's signals....

Op here
THANKS everyone for the replies.

A. I have used my fitness pal on and off for a while. Before the diet and while on it. My calorie intake has decreased since I started the diet.
On a normal day I eat:
1 or 2 slices bread and a cup of coffee
Salad (with sweet potato sometimes)
Sometimes up to 5 rice cakes (sometimes with peanut butter)
Meat/ chicken with potatoes / rice

I add fruit sometimes, not a big fan so not a lot.

I really don't think it's the calorie intake.
But I should exercise more because I have slowed down a bit since its gotten so hot.
I'm in my 20s.

I'm really thinkin it's gotta be the hormones of going off bc. The problem is that the posters on the link above claim nothing helped and they kept gaining.
Has anyone had this?! Gaining because of getting off bc? I really want to hear somebody else's experience.
I'm definitely starting to eat less im'y! And walk more!

Thanks again!

If you recently went off BC, is it possible you're pregnant?

I thought of that. But even if I am it doesn't really make sense that it would affect me so quickly (went off pills, got period after a few days, went to mikavh only a week and half ago ).

I gained 10 lbs when going off bc. Thanks to this post, I know it's not only me. The irony is I always lost my weight easily after giving birth, but I gained 10lbs when I started hormonal bc and another 10 when I went off.
