They Say My Brother Died

They say my brother died,
and his shloshim is tonight;
that though he was a warrior,
he lost his final fight.

But everywhere I go,
and everything I see,
Reminds me of my brother,
and jogs my memory.

My son is breading cutlets
at the kitchen table.
My brother did that to;
at a young age he was able.

While checking the sales I notice
wing sauce advertised this week.
My brother loved buffalo wings.
His taste buds weren't meek.

A beat up van passes.
My father drove one, I remember.
My brother used to play in it
From June until September.

My son is wrapped in his blanket.
"This is my tallis," he said.
My brother used to play shul
with a tallis over his head.

I see signs of my brother
everywhere I go,
and as long as I keep seeing them
there's something that I know.

They say my brother died;
that they watched his soul depart,
but my brother's still alive;
he's living in my heart.

I have tears in my eyes. Hug

He was very loved your brother. That is so obvious from the way your write about him. That love and the attachment stays. Hashem chose you to be in the same family, there is a soul attachment.

May your brother's neshamah have an aliyah upon his sholshim.

That is beautiful.

Your brother definitely lives on in the memories of a lot of people.

As sneakermom mentioned, the fact that you were part of the same family means that you have a neshama connection with him that goes far beyond the physical domain.

I know one day you will all be reunited, but that is probably little comfort for the day-to-day of living with his absence and missing him so much.

May Hashem comfort you and your family.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I cried! Op, would it be okay if I forward this? A relative of mine was recently niftar, and I think this would give a lot of chizuk to the family.

May your brother be a meilitz yosher for your family and all of Am Yisroel.

Wow, how beautiful that you love your brother so much, even after his passing. May his neshama have an aliyah, and your family should be comforted in this time of pain!
Hugs!

As someone who lost someone really close, I really feel this was written for my family....
It was very sudden.....
He was a bochur and It's been 4 years and all I can think of when I see young married guys or new fathers, that's what could have been ..... and it hurts so much......
