What is it about? I don't get the Ami unless someone gives me their old ones.

I haven't read it so I haven't the foggiest notion of what you infer, but I don't think starting a conversation that will lead to discussion about a specific poster is a good idea.

Unless it's about that most awesome poster, what's her name again?...

Yeah- Sherri.

So, did anyone read this yet, or should we wait till after shabbos to bump it up?

I read it on Shabbos. I must say that last weeks response from a writer about the mother covering up for the father... really was an eye opener and I sent it to a few people to read.

I think she was referring to an article from this week's... probably more people will respond after Shabbos.

I don't subscribe to Ami because I subscribe to Mishpacha.

Can someone clue me in?

A letter writer, signed CCC, confused chasidish couple, writes how she and husband both grew up chasidish, but are confused about certain chasidish minhagim.
She brings examples such as husband wearing "veise zuken" (white socks) and chasidish women shaving their heads.
She asks if litvish men and women don't do these minhagim do they have an aveira? Rolling Eyes shock

This sounded way too familiar from the "chasidish women shaving" thread and the other threads about chasidish minhagim on here recently.
Anyone agree that including the detail of shaving the head is inappropriate for a family magazine?

I think it is inappropriate for a non Frum magazine. The Frum ones are the ones that should be discussing issues regarding Frumkeit.

And they knew Litvish people don't get an Aveira for not doing these things. Their question was why they should continue doing it them if they're not Halacha.

Issues regarding frumkeit, yes. But the detail of shaving the head is inappropriate IMHO.
Of course they knew Litvish ppl don't get an aveira. Its just the wording of the question that irked me. So much narrowminded ness came through those lines.
I think Rabbi Taub answered very very well.

Why is it inappropriate? Are ads for Shaitels also inappropriate?

I agree he answered well.

You're comparing shaitels and shaving?
Would you want your preteen or teenage bachur reading that? Why is that appropriate in a FAMILY magazine, for people of all ages and genders to read about what goes on under a chasidish woman's shaitel?
In the women's section, maybe.
But it struck me as inappropriate.

He answered a long explanation about the beauty of going beyond what is absolutely necessary to please Hashem, and about dressing the part as a Jew. He said if you want to know where these customs come from, learn Sefer Chassidus.

I do not see why it is any less appropriate to discuss shaving heads then to discuss covering hair or bald heads.
