Is Yad Vashem suitable for children between 5-12?

Will it freak them out and be counter-productive?

It is very intense. Furthermore:

Quote:
■Entrance to the Holocaust History Museum is not permitted for children under the age of 10. Babies in strollers or carriers will not be permitted to enter.

I wouldn't take a child under 12 to it....I would probably wait until they were about 14 at least and mature at that since it is extremely intense, emotional and can be traumatizing to young children.
I went at 15 and even then I didn't fully comprehend everything and a lot freaked me out a bit.

It is not appropriate for children. I wouldn't take a kid under 14 there. You'd have an awful lot of 'splaining to do and it is not something you should really be explaining to little children. Take them to the zoo instead. It's a terrific zoo and the kids will enjoy that!

My daughters school takes the 8th grade every year for a school trip.

Children much younger than that should not be going.

I grew up with lots of holocaust information and stories. Too much. But was not allowed to go to Yad vashem until I was after bat mitzvah. Maybe 13-14. Same with the museum in Washington and same with watching Schindlers list, which I only saw for the first time as an adult even though it came out when I was a child. Def not.

I still have a horrible time at Yad vashem. It's too much for me.

I would say no. I found it to be very graphic and "scary"and I'm an adult. but I'm actually pretty sure they have "rules" about what ages are allowed entrance....call or check on their website.

I went to the Holocaust museum in Washington, DC with my family when I was 7. The museum, I remember not at all. What I never forgot? My mother crying there.
I'd say these things are for older kids.

I went in seminary and had trouble eating the rest of the day. It can definitely traumatize a child.

I vote yes. There is a part of it which is the children's pavilion. No horrors. Candles, names. Stories. suitable for children even 5 years olf. Take your children there. You can skip the major museum. There is an art museum that is also suitable for most children. Not the major exhibit which you are thinking of, the six part historical one, but the children's pavilion for little children and the art museum for the 10-14 year olds.
